SU Reopens 10 a.m. Wednesday, February 18

4 p.m. Tuesday, February 17

Winter WeatherSalisbury University reopens Wednesday, February 18, at 10 a.m.  Liberal leave policy is in effect for non-essential personnel.  Personnel must notify their supervisors prior to the beginning of their regularly scheduled shift if they intend to use leave.

On-Campus Parking Restrictions Lifted

Students who moved their vehicles from main campus to the Wayne Street Parking Garage are now permitted to return their vehicles to the parking lots.  Campus parking restrictions have been lifted.  Your cooperation facilitated the University snow removal efforts. Thank you.

Despite the best efforts to clear roads, parking lots and sidewalks, freezing weather can result in ice reforming. Please continue to use caution while driving and walking.

9 p.m. Monday, February 16

Salisbury University is closed and classes are canceled on Tuesday, February 17. Only those employees designated as essential personnel should report to work. Non-essential personnel with questions about their schedule should contact their supervisors.

Because of plowing expected to take place in campus parking lots, cars with permits on main campus are asked to move to the Wayne St. Parking Garage or Dresser parking lot.  Cars without permits may also move to Dresser.

As part of the University’s Emergency Preparedness Plan, essential campus functions will be maintained. Following are some of the services available Tuesday, weather conditions permitting:

  • Blackwell Library will be open from 10 a.m.-4 p.m. (no services).
  • The Commons Dining Services will maintain regular operating hours until 7:30 p.m.   Although the Gull’s Nest will be closed in the Guerrieri University Center, Cool Beans will be open from 9 a.m.-5 p.m.
  • IT labs and the Help Desk will be open from 7 a.m.-7 p.m.
  • The Guerrieri University Center will maintain normal operating hours, 8 a.m.-midnight.  (Services may be limited.)
  • Maggs Physical Activities Center and the University Fitness Club will open at 10 a.m. and operate as scheduled.
  • SU Police will remain open 24 hours.

For medical emergencies, please call 911.

Most cultural events for Tuesday have been canceled. SU Dining Services’ Mardi Gras dinner, featuring music by Just Fools, will take place as scheduled from 4:30-7:30 p.m.

Temperatures are expected to be in the teens Monday night with wind chill of 0-10 degrees, according to the National Weather Service (NWS). Temperatures may edge up into the 20s on Tuesday.  Please dress warmly if you must go out and exert extra care while walking because of hazardous conditions and extreme cold.

The NWS also encourages motorists to travel with caution due to an expected accumulation of snow and ice, especially on bridges, overpasses and secondary roads, and reduced visibility caused by falling snow during the overnight and early morning hours.

The campus community is urged to periodically check the SU website and email, and monitor local media for information regarding campus services and reopening.
