SU Pet Food Drive Aids Homeless Dogs and Cats

SALISBURY, MD---Volunteers from Salisbury University’s Blackwell Library spent the month leading up to the holidays collecting pet food, treats and toys for homeless dogs and cats on the Lower Eastern Shore.

This year has been the largest in the drive’s five-year history, with donations coming not only from individuals, but from student organizations such as the Pi Gamma Mu international honor society in social sciences, which contributed heavily to the event.

“We have fun collecting items for the dogs and cats in the area shelters each Christmas,” said Susan Wheatley, one of the drive’s organizers. “Many of us in the library have adopted homeless dogs and cats through the years and this is our way of giving back the love and joy our pets have given to each of us.”

Donated items are divided among the Wicomico County Humane Society, Good Shepherd Cat Sanctuary in Salisbury and Somerset Animal Welfare Society in Crisfield, MD.
