Political Editor Kurtz Speaks at SU October 9

SALISBURY, MD---Roll Call editor Josh Kurtz speaks at Salisbury University about the fight for control of Congress 6 p.m. Monday, October 9, in the Worcester Room of the Commons.

As the politics editor of Roll Call, a Capitol Hill newspaper published four days a week, Kurtz is responsible for extensive coverage of congressional races throughout the country. He also writes a monthly column on Maryland politics for Corridor Inc., a magazine that covers business and politics in the Baltimore-Washington, D.C. corridor.

Prior to working at Roll Call, Kurtz spent seven years as a reporter, columnist and statehouse bureau chief at The Gazette newspapers in the suburbs of Washington, D.C., where he won 10 awards from the Maryland/Delaware/D.C. Press Association for his coverage of Maryland and local government. He has also been a reporter for the Santa Fe Reporter, a newsweekly in New Mexico. There he covered federal, state and local politics and wrote groundbreaking investigative pieces on the oil and gas industry.

Kurtz also spent three years in an apprentice program for young journalists at The New York Times and spent two years working for politicians in New York. His work has appeared in The Washington Post, Newsweek, Village Voice and other publications.

After growing up in New York City, Kurtz earned a B.A. in history from the University of Wisconsin and a master’s degree in journalism from Columbia University. He is married with two daughters.
