Henson Science Hall Design Named One of Maryland's Best

SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University’s Henson Science Hall is one of the best-designed new buildings in Maryland, according to the Maryland Society chapter of the American Institute of Architects.

The chapter recently announced its selection of Henson Hall for a 2003 Honor Award. Of 75 designs submitted for consideration, four were selected as Honor Award winners.

“They way they designed it, the way it looks is what won Henson Hall the award. They did an excellent job,” said SU Facilities Construction Engineer Jamal Baassiri, who coordinated the project with Richard Yobst, associate vice president of administration, and Dr. Tom Jones, dean of the Richard A. Henson School of Science and Technology.

Jones said students have found the building convenient for their studies.

"We have been very pleased with our new Henson Science Hall and we appreciate the facility receiving this recognition from the Maryland Society of the American Institute for Architects,” he said. “Students have made extensive use of the comfortable layout of this building and its readily available access to science technology."

The science hall was a collaboration of Mitchell Giurgola Architects of New York, Cho Benn Holback and Associates of Baltimore, and Bovis Lend Lease of Washington, D.C./Richmond, VA.
