Electronic Gallery Exhibit Opens January 22

SALISBURY, MD---Exploring connections between the real world and a virtual world, Salisbury University hosts the exhibit “Reenactment: The Salt Satyagraha Online, Gandhi’s March to Dandi in Second Life” by Joe DeLappe January 22-March 14.  It’s on display in SU’s Electronic Gallery in the Teacher Education and Technology Center, Room 128.

A reception and artist talk is 5 p.m. Thursday, February 19, in the TETC, Room 156.

SU’s newest gallery hosts art exhibitions, visiting artists and computer-generated media.  This exhibition explores connections between the real world and Second Life, a rapidly growing virtual world that has become a global phenomenon.

For the installation, DeLappe, who has worked with electronic and new media since 1983, connects the real world to the virtual world. Using virtual reality, via Second Life, he has reenacted Gandhi’s historic “Salt March.”  By connecting a treadmill to his Gandhi avatar, the artist walked 240 miles in 24 days.  For the installation, DeLappe, collaborates with SU sculpture students to create a three dimensional sculptural representation of his Gandhi avatar to accompany the electronic portion of the exhibit.

Gallery hours are 10 a.m.-4 p.m. Monday-Friday; 11 a.m.-3 p.m. Saturday. Admission is free and the public is invited.
