Blacks on Eastern Shore" Topic of Feb.  5 Lecture

SALISBURY, MD---Dr. Clara Small, Salisbury State University history professor, will lecture about the society and culture of Eastern Shore blacks at the Edward H. Nabb Research Center for Delmarva History and Culture as part of the University’s celebration of African-American History Month.

     Small’s presentation, titled “Blacks on the Eastern Shore” will be held Monday, February 5 at 7 p.m. in the Nabb Center located near the intersection of Wayne and Power streets. Admission is free and the public is invited.

     Her presentation will include vignettes from the lives of blacks living in the Colonial period through the Civil War.

     Small, who specializes in African-American history, has been active during her 22-year teaching career at SSU to educate the community about black history. She has hosted many events including a Buffalo Soldiers lecture, researched slavery on Delmarva, and is currently researching the role of roughly 600 blacks that served in the Civil War from Worcester County. Rev. David Briddell is assisting her.
