Allfirst President Presents Great Leader Lecture Oct. 16

SALISBURY, MD--One of the country’s leading businesswomen is the next Great Leaders Lecture Series speaker at Salisbury University.  

Susan C. Keating, president and chief executive officer of Allfirst Financial Inc. and Allfirst Bank, addresses the campus community and the public at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 16, in Holloway Hall Auditorium. Admission is free. Her visit is sponsored by the Franklin P. Perdue School of Business.  

Keating is responsible for the 43rd largest U.S. bank holding company, Maryland’s largest headquartered bank, and the largest U.S. holding by Allied Irish Banks P.L.C., Allfirst Financial’s parent company. Allfirst Financial assets were $18.6 billion as of March 31, 2001. She also serves on its board of directors.  

In 1994, Keating was named one of the “Magnificent Seven” by Business and Professional Women/USA. She is a member of the Council of One Hundred, a select group of professional women graduates of Northwestern University.

Most recently, Keating was selected as one of the top 100 Professional Women in Maryland and one of Pennsylvania’s 50 Best Women.  

In 1996, Keating joined Allfirst Financial as executive vice president and head of retail banking. In 1997, she was appointed president and CEO of Dauphin Deposit Bank and The York Bank. In 1999, she was appointed president and chief operating officer of Allfirst Financial Inc. and Allfirst Bank.

Her career in banking began in 1974 as a trainee at First Bank System in Milwaukee. After having served as marketing and credit card manager in Minneapolis, she was promoted to senior vice president of retail banking. In 1988, Keating joined MNC Financial as senior vice president responsible for the Maryland branches.  

She served in positions of increasing responsibility and was promoted to executive vice president for commercial and retail banking in 1991. When NationsBank (now Bank of America) acquired MNC in 1993, Keating served as president and senior banking executive for Maryland, responsible for retail banking in the mid-Atlantic region.

Keating’s civic activities have included serving as co-chair of the Governor’s Economic Development Policy Committee in Maryland and as a board member of the Empower Baltimore Management Corporation, the Maryland Business Council, Union Memorial Hospital, the University of Maryland’s Shock Trauma Center, the Baltimore Museum of Art, St. Paul’s School for Girls and the B&O Railroad Museum. Currently, she serves on numerous boards including the Financial Services Roundtable, the Baltimore Life Insurance Companies, and the Greater Baltimore Committee.
