'A New Century for a New Haiti' Discussion March 6

SALISBURY, MD--The Salisbury State University Amnesty International Chapter hosts a panel discussion, “Yon Nouvo Syek pou Yon Nouvo Ayiti: A New Century for a New Haiti,” on Tuesday, March 6, at 7 p.m. in Fulton Hall Room 111. The event, which marks the beginning of Haitian Solidarity Week, features special Guest Melinda Miles, coordinator of the Haiti Reborn Project of the Quixote Center in Washington, and Haitians Jean Michel Charites, Carmen Sauveur and Rosie Josef. Admission is free and the public is invited to attend.

In addition to discussing Haiti's politics, society, culture and people, the panel will focus on how far Haiti has come in establishing democracy and stability after fighting a 30-year dictatorship and four-year coup that occurred eight months after the first free elections in 1990.

The event celebrates the nation’s rich, cultural past and the hope of maintaining democracy in the new century. For information visit the University’s Web site at www.salisbury.edu or call 410-548-5993.
