Twelve SSU Facultyare Recpients of Foundation Grants

SALISBURY, MD-The Salisbury State University Foundation Grant Committee recently awarded 12 grants totaling $7,725 to SSU faculty members.

Receiving grants from the Seidel School of Education were Dr. Ron Frank and Dr. Nomsa Geleta. Frank received $425 toward participation in the annual National Council for Social Studies Convention and Geleta received $700 toward her trip to observe, learn and teach in the New Zealand School System.

Faculty members from the Charles R. and Martha N. Fulton School of Liberal Arts Department were Dr. Gregory C. Ference, Dr. Darrell Hagar and Dr. James Hatley. Ference of the History Department received $700 toward expenses incurred attending the Czechoslovak Genealogical Society International Conference in Nebraska. Hagar of the English Department received $700 for his presentation at the U.S. Air Force Academy. Hatley of the Philosophy Department received $500 in support of his presentation of two papers at conferences.

Faculty members from the Richard A. Henson School of Science and Technology were Dr. Robert L. Joyner, Dr. Kimberly Hunter and Dr. Mary Kane. Joyner of the Department of Health Sciences received $700 for the conference "Partner for Excellence in Respiratory Care." Hunter of the Department of Biological Sciences received a $500 contribution toward her student centered research on common reed grass. Kane of the Nursing Department was awarded $700 toward studying and treating males in Somerset County Jail with chlamydia infections.

Faculty members from the Franklin P. Perdue School of Business included Dr. Pamela Alreck, Dr. Robert Settle, Dr. Ping Chen and Dr. Choong Lee. Alreck and Settle, both from the Management and Marketing Department, received $700 to attend the 11th annual Direct Marketing Educator's Conference in Toronto, Canada. Cheng of the Finance Department received $700 to help pay for expenses for a conference in Beijing, China. Lee of the Department of Information and Decision Science received $700 in support of a presentation he will be giving in New Orleans.

The SSU Foundation is a nonprofit organization which raises private funding for numerous academic and cultural activities at the University not covered by state funds. Donations made through the Foundation have endowed schools, provided scholarships and grants for research, and funded the University Gallery, visiting lectures, cultural events and field trips.
