The Degradation of our Physical Surroundings" Subject of October 16 Lecture

SALISBURY, MD--The Society for Photographic Educators Mid-Atlantic Regional Conference, Living in the Sprawl Zone: Photographers Promote, Record and Critique the Transformation of the American Landscape, is at Salisbury State University on Saturday, October 16. A slide lecture presentation, The Degradation of our Physical Surroundings, by keynote speaker James Howard Kunstler at 6 p.m. in SSU's Devilbiss Hall Auditorium is free and open to the public.

Author of The Geography of Nowhere and Home from Nowhere, Kunstler's presentation addresses how America today is in danger of losing its sense of place and sense of community. Kunstler addresses the role photography, especially advertising, real estate, travel and marketplace imaging has played in the migration of America out of the cities and across the shrinking countryside. He discusses what the spiritual, ecological and social results of this situation taught.

A frequent contributor to the New York Times magazine and the author of eight novels in addition to his well-received nonfiction books on urban sprawl.
