Woolford named Assistant Director-Research at Salisbury State

SALISBURY, MD--Dornell Woolford, a 1988 graduate of Salisbury State University, was recently named the new assistant director-research at SSU, announced Vice President for University Advancement Martin Williams.

This is a relatively new position in the Advancement Office at SSU, said Williams, but is considered an indispensable job in development offices at universities throughout the country. We are very confident that Dornell will step in and continue the fine work started by his predecessor, Betsey Jackson.

Woolford is responsible for updating and gathering biographical and demographic information about current and potential donors to the University.

Woolford, who received both his Bachelor of Arts and Master of Arts from Salisbury State, has worked for the past five years in the position of visiting lecturer in the Department of English and Modern Languages at the University of Maryland Eastern Shore, where he taught courses in composition, technical writing and fundamentals of speech.

At UMES he has also served as an instructor in the Upward Bound Program, teaching writing, reading comprehension and study skills to economically disadvantaged and learning disabled ninth-12th grade students in a Title IV funded tutorial and college preparatory program.

Prior to joining UMES his professional experience included working as a transfer counselor at Chesapeake College, which included reviewing transcripts, assessing transfer credit, academic advising, workshop planning, developing a retention action plan and collaborative grant writing; and as a part-time instructor teaching SOS 101, a program requirement for all degree seeking students to improve skills necessary to succeed in college.

A member of the Sigma Tau Delta international honor society since 1995, Woolford has been active in community service and has served as a volunteer and board member on the Lower Shore chapter of the Red Cross, the Salisbury Rotary Club, Bay Shore Services and the SSU Alumni Association.
