Frances Lord Holland Scholarship Awarded

SALISBURY, MD--Douglas Carney, a senior accounting major at Salisbury State University, is the recent recipient of the Holland Scholarship, a $2,000 award for a junior or senior from Wicomico County studying business at SSUâs Franklin P. Perdue School of Business.

The scholarship is named after Frances Lord Holland, a teaching demonstrator when what was then called the Maryland State Normal School opened in Salisbury in 1925. A $30,000 gift from the estate of W. Tracy Holland, president of Farmers and Merchants Bank until his death in 1964, and Frances Lord Holland created the annual scholarship.

"This has helped local students get an education," said Lee Townshend, director of academic services in the Perdue School of Business.

Recipients must demonstrate financial need. It is administered by the Salisbury State Foundation. For more information call 410-543-6165.
