Juilliard Series Features Violinst Philip Quint November 15

SALISBURY, MD---The Juilliard Series at Salisbury State University continues on Sunday, November 15, at 2 p.m. with a performance by violinist Philip Quint with accompanist Tatiana Goncharova on piano. The performance, free and open to the public, is in the Wicomico Room of the Guerrieri University Center.

Quint made his Carnegie Hall debut with the New York Senior Orchestra after winning first prize at the 1996 Carnegie Hall Violin Competition. He made his Avery Fisher Hall debut with the Orpheus Chamber Orchestra in 1995 and South American debut with the Santo Domingo National Symphony Orchestra in 1996. Following his arrival in the United States in 1991, he has won top prizes at the fourth international Pablo de Sarasate Violin Competition in Spain also receiving the Special Audience Prize, D Angelo International String Competition, Salon di Virtuosi Award, Heida Hermann International String Competition and the Clarisse B. Kampel Foundation Career Award.

He has been a featured soloist with the Denver Chamber Orchestra, the Brooklyn Philharmonic, the Newburgh Symphony, the Aspen Young Artists Orchestra, the Metropolitan Symphony Orchestra, Caracas Symphony Orchestra in Venezuela and Pablo de Sarasate Orchestra of Pamplona.

A student at the Moscow Special Music School for Gifted Children, Quint made his debut at the age of 9 with the Leningrad School Symphony Orchestra. In 1987 he was the winner of the Mendelssohn Concerto Competition I Leningrad and in 1989 the Paganini Concerto Competition in Moscow. Currently he is completing his master s at the Juilliard School of Music in New York.

Russian born Goncharova made her debut with the Minsk Philharmonic at the age of 10 and since then has been heard throughout the world both as a soloist and chamber musician. Since her arrival in the United States (1989) she has won many top prizes including the Olga Koussevitzky Piano Competition, Bergen Philharmonic Competition and Heida Hermann s International Competition.
