Jayamangala to perform during SSU's Multicultural Festival Week on May 2nd

SALISBURY, MD---Jayamangala, a classical Indian music and dance group, performs Tuesday, May 2, at 7:30 p.m. in Caruthers Hall Auditorium at Salisbury State University. The event, part of SSU's Multicultural Festival Week, is free and open to the public.

Jayamangala presents traditional classical dances from India. Group members are clothed in Indian dress and accompanied by musicians, a singer, a percussionist and a violinist.

The Jayamangala group is a family of performing artists who are dedicated to promoting Indian music and dance. The Lanham, MD, based Jayamangala School of Music and Dance was founded in 1991 by Shohba Subramanian. Subramanian teaches classical Indian dance to students and presents them in cultural programs.

The group's objective is to spread and preserve the cultural heritage of India and its traditional art forms. The group performs primarily on the East Coast and as far west as Texas. For more information call the SSU Public Relations Office at 410-543-6030.
