Gilchrest Seminar Addresses Political and Environmental Issues Affecting Chesapeake Bay l

SALISBURY, MD---Congressman Wayne Gilchrest conducts the seminar “Political and Environmental Issues Affecting Chesapeake Bay” at Salisbury State University on Thursday, October 19, at 6 p.m. in Fulton Hall Room 128.

During his tenure in Congress Gilchrest has been a strong voice for environmental protection and has worked for the greater conservation of the nation’s fisheries and safer, cleaner waterways. Gilchrest is chairman of the House Subcommittee on Maritime Transportation, which is of great importance to Marylanders in the First District who make their living from the water.

According to Dr. Harry Basehart, SSU professor of political science and co-director of the Institute for Public Affairs and Civic Engagement (PACE), the purpose of the seminar is to acquaint university students with current critical public issues confronting society in the 64,000 square mile Chesapeake Bay watershed. The seminar is part of a weeklong Conference on Chesapeake Bay in the 21st Century. The conference showcases the importance of seascape and landscape in the mid-Atlantic region.

Admission to the seminar is free and the public is invited. For more information contact the SSU Public Relations Office at 410-543-6030.
