Freshman Cultural Laureate Pilot Program Comes to SU

SALISBURY, MD---The arts may not only entertain; they can shape people’s lives. Plays, works of art, music, even cartoons can create social upheaval. During the college years such life-changing events often occur outside the classroom. That’s why Salisbury University is broadening new students’ horizons through the arts with its new Freshman Cultural Laureate Program (CLP).

A pilot for the fall semester, members of the Class of 2010 may earn special recognition by attending at least four designated cultural events between September and December. Events are listed in a special Cultural Laureate Program brochure as well as the University publication, Panorama, and may be found on the Web at www.salisbury.edu/freshmancl. Attendance is registered by a swipe of the Gull Card in a portable reader at each CLP-approved event.

The Charles R. and Martha N. Fulton School of Liberal Arts, Office of Student Affairs, Office of Cultural Affairs and President’s Office have collaborated on this pilot project. The CLP is similar to those at several private colleges and universities.

Freshmen who complete the requirements earn a certificate of appreciation and their parents receive a letter of congratulations on their behalf.

Following an evaluation of the CLP, Zinner hopes to see it expand to include all students next academic year. For more information contact Zinner at eszinner@salisbury.edu or visit the SU Web site at www.salisbury.edu.
