SU President one of Maryland's Top 100 Women

SALISBURY, MD---Salisbury University President Janet Dudley-Eshbach joins a distinguished class ofleaders today with the announcement of her selection as one of Maryland’s Top 100 Women.

The honor,bestowed by The Daily Record, a business-based newspaper in Baltimore, recognizes the outstanding achievements of professional women who reside orwork in Maryland.

Dudley-Eshbachbecame the eighth president of Salisbury University in June 2000, the firstwoman to hold the office in the University's 75-year history. Prior to herappointment, she served as president of Fairmont State College in West Virginia and held faculty and administrative positions at three colleges anduniversities. She earned her Ph.D. from El Colegio de Mexico in 1986.

Dudley-Eshbachhas guided the University in new directions through a series of initiatives, includingexpanding shared governance, promoting increased diversity among students,faculty and staff, and improving town-gown relations. ßA Latin American scholarwho is fluent in Spanish, she has been a champion of international study forßstudents,ß increasing opportunities for foreign study in all academicdisciplines.

With the highestgraduation rates in the University System of Maryland, SU achieved its firstTop Tier ranking in U.S. News & World Report in 2003 underDudley-Eshbach. The campus of 7,000 also has earned high rankings in otherpublications, including guides from The Princeton Review, Kiplinger’sMagazine and Kaplan’s Publishing. Dudley-Eshbach has overseen the opening ofone new academic building on campus, the $42 million Henson Science Hall, oneof the largest science facilities in the state, and has been key in thedevelopment of at least one more, the proposed Teacher Education and Technology Center.

The Daily Record created Maryland’s Top 100 Women to draw attention to the contributions being made by women throughout the state. This annual program is designed to recognize the women who not only have achieved professional success,but who also have contributed to bettering the communities in which they work and live.
