Welcome to Campus Housing & Residence Life

The Office of Housing and Residence Life's mission is to foster an inclusive community which inspires lifelong learning, responsible living and academic success. Through our mission, Housing and Residence Life cultivates an atmosphere which supports: identity development, self-empowerment, intellectual pursuit, celebration of diversity, interpersonal skills and meaningful connections. Approximately 2300 spaces are provided for undergraduate students. We are unable to accommodate graduate students; however, they should consult the Graduate School as well as our Commuter Connections' Web site.

We are seeing a rise in COVID cases across the country, and we want to make sure you are aware of Salisbury University’s policies regarding Coronavirus.

It is recommended all students notify campus Health by email (campushealth@salisbury.edu) or phone (410-677-0022) of a positive COVID test. It will be noted on faculty rosters that the student is absent and the instructor’s policy for class absences will apply. In alignment with CDC guidelines, individuals with a positive COVID test are to isolate a full five days.

For students living on campus

If a student tests positive, they are expected to leave campus. Students who live in a single room may isolate in their room masked, until their ride arrives.

If a positive student shares a space with another student and can be picked up in two hours or less, they may temporarily isolate while masked in their space until their ride arrives. We ask that the individual’s roommate mask as well, if they are in the room at the same time. If the positive student will not be picked up for more than two hours, Housing and Residence Life will assign a student to a temporary space in Dogwood Village until their ride arrives. Roommates are encouraged to mask until the COVID positive student leaves for isolation.

AFTER 4:30pm: We suggest students continue to plan to go home but we will not send a student home in the middle of the night. As a safety precaution, the individual may remain temporarily in Dogwood Village until early the next morning. SU will follow hourly isolation guidelines listed above after hours.

Students who have their own transportation, and the after-hours info below does not apply will be asked to mask while they pack their belongings, and leave campus as soon as possible, assuming they are well enough to drive.

AFTER 8:00pm: The University encourages students to relocate temporarily to Dogwood Village until the early morning (7:00am if they have a vehicle or between 8:00am-9:00am if a family member is their ride). Student may still choose to leave campus to isolate.

Take-home COVID-19 tests remain free and available to all faculty, staff and students. Test kits and masks can be picked up at every Residence Hall on campus, as well as the Guerrieri Academic Commons Library Service Desk, Guerrieri Student Union Information Desk, the entrance of the SU Bookstore in the dining Commons and Student Health Services in Holloway Hall. Student Health Services is providing free in person testing for students who have appointments with providers. Appointments must be scheduled ahead of time.

Residency Requirement
Salisbury University has a two-year residency requirement for all freshmen and sophomore students. Freshmen students beginning in the fall semester are required to live on campus for four semesters and students beginning in the spring semester live on campus for three semesters.

First Year Student (Incoming Freshmen):

Students may request an exemption based on the following criteria:
- Geographic – Students living at home with their parents, legal guardian, or an immediate family member (non-SU student) over the age of 21 in Wicomico, Worcester, Somerset, Dorchester, or Sussex counties
- Age – Students who, at the time of enrollment, are at least 21 years of age
- Other – Students who are married or caring for dependent children, or students who have completed military service.
At the end of the first year of on-campus residence, students may request an exemption based on the following criteria:
- achieved a 3.25 cumulative GPA,
- no negative student conduct history, and
- completed at least 30 credits of study at SU (does not include transfer credits)
Note: The Office of Housing and Residence Life reserves the right to confirm with other University offices any claim presented as the basis for an exemption. This includes, but is not limited to financial hardship, acquired credit hours, student conduct record, residency, etc.
Petition for Exemption
The student must submit an exemption request via GullNet (Student Tab>Housing Box>Exemption Request). Your appeal will be responded to within ten business days. Students may not appeal an exemption; the communicated decision is final.

Deadline to submit an exemption request for fall:
- new, incoming freshmen students – May 1
- rising sophomores April 15
Deadline to submit an exemption request for spring
- new, incoming freshmen students – October 31
- Mid-year exemptions will be not permitted for freshmen or sophomores, as students have committed to a year-long contract.
New students eligible to receive an exemption from the two-year residency requirement that at first choose to live on campus and then petition to remain at home after June 1 (or October 31 for the spring semester) are subject to an $800 breach-of-contract fee, should the exemption be granted.

Spring 2024 - The Housing Contract is linked directly to the Admissions Acceptance and is available through December 31st on the student’s Admissions Status Portal. Placements will be sent the 2nd week of January.

Fall 2024 - The Housing Contract is linked directly to the Admissions Acceptance and is available through May 1st on the student’s Admissions Status Portal. Changes to the contract may be made through May 31st. Placements will be sent on July 15th.

Spring 2024 - Students currently studying abroad and those living off-campus (excluding University Park) should contact the office for availability.

Fall 2024 - The Housing Contract will be available December 1-22, for eligible students.

Transfer Student Contracts

Incoming transfer students desiring to live on campus are placed on the Waiting List based on the admissions deposit paid date. If/when a space becomes available, you will be contacted via phone.

Summer Term Housing 2024

On-Campus housing is available for SU Students who are taking a class or classes and/or working at Salisbury University during the Summer Term. Exceptions will be made on a case by case basis.

Placement will be in Dogwood Village (10 singles rooms that share 2 bathrooms). There is a shared lounge/kitchen area for all residence in Dogwood Village. You may visit MyFridgeRental.com to inquire about a renting a Microfridge for the summer term.

Dates are listed on the application. If you cannot check in between the posted times, you need to notify the Housing Office in advance. If you have not checked in by the end of the day on your scheduled check in day we will assume you are not coming and make your room available to walk-ins. You may not arrive prior to May 28th.

Prior to check-in your student account will be billed. After filling out this form, if you decide that you will not be attending summer term or that you do not need on-campus housing, please notify us as soon as possible so we can update your financial account.

Meal plans are not active during the summer term and the dining hall is only open during limited times that coincide with the Summer Camps/Conferences schedule. For dining options, please contact Dining Services at 410-543-6105.
