Honors Trips & Activities

Then Honors College senior Elyse Krupinski presented her art show for her Honors College Thesis, which focused on the taxation of feminine hygiene products.

The Honors College co-hosted the “Gift of Anger” lecture with the Bosserman Center for Conflict Resolution where Dr. Arun Gandhi, grandson of Mahatma Gandhi shared his grandfather’s teachings. During the spring semester, Dr. Arun Gandhi taught an Honors College course.

The Honors College sent then Honors College sophomore, Jeremie Rose Barbosa, and then junior, Lauren DeLong, to the National Experimental Biology Conference in San Diego, California, to present their combined research on the immunotoxin effects of arsenic on a macrophage cell culture.

During the spring semester, Dr. Lycett’s Ecological Restoration course went on field trips across Maryland’s Eastern Shore focusing on the restoration of natural ecosystems. The Honors College students visited the Assateague Island National Seashore, the fishing pier at the Pocomoke River State Park, and the Foster tract of the Pocomoke State Forest.

At the 2018 Salisbury University’s Student Research Conference, over sixty Honors College students presented their undergraduate research, with thirty-three of the projects being directly funded by the Honors College.

The Honors College partnered with the Institute for Pubic Affairs and Civic Engagement (PACE) to host a panel, “Monuments and Memories.” The Honors College Dean and then Honors College sophomore, Abiodun Adeoye, served as panelists.

Then Honors College senior social work student, Katie Barton, presented her Honors Creative Project, “Together We Are Stronger.” While in South Africa on a winter study abroad trip, Katie worked with the Grandmothers Against Poverty and AIDS, so upon her return Katie brought greater awareness on campus to this organization and the need for increase awareness on HIV/AIDS.

Then Honors College junior, Maggie Delaney, presented her Honors Creative Project which was an art show compiled of multimedia work in which she had done over the past two semesters. The artworks main theme was the spiritual connection between human and nature. Maggie demonstrated the similarity’s human and nature share in order to remind he viewers of this spiritual connection.

The Honors College and the Office of Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity sent thirty-four students to the 2018 National Undergraduate Research Conference in Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. Twenty of the students were in Honors ranging from freshman to seniors who presented their Freshman Honors Paper Three, Honors Creative Projects, and Honors Theses.

The Honors College Business Program students heard from Kathy Kiernan and Candice Schroepfer on how to get the most out of LinkedIn when it comes to networking

Honors College students interning in Salisbury University’s Nabb Research Center for Delmarva History and Culture created an exhibit exploring the history and legacy of the indigenous people of the Eastern Shore and their connections to Salisbury University.

The Honors College’s Honors Student Association hosted the 2018 Salisbury Easter Egg Hunt where over 1,000 attendees came on campus for a community egg hunt.

Three Honors College students hosted a lecture where they shared their experiences completing the Social Work & Nursing Study Abroad in Cape Town, South Africa, over the winter break.  

The Honors College co-sponsored the lecture “Spiro Agnew and the Rise of the Republican Right,” where Dr. Justin Coffey discussed U.S Vice President and former Maryland Governor Spiro Agnew’s career.

The Honors Student Association held their Annual Ugly Sweater Holiday Party where students were able to enjoy food, crafts, and Christmas music!

At the end of the fall 2017 semester, the Honors College organized a trip to New York City, where students visited the National Museum of the American Indian and got to tour the Big Apple.

The Honors College partnered with The Office on Undergraduate Research and Creative Activity (OURCA) and the Graduate School for a Discussion on Human Subject Research with Members of Salisbury University's Institutional Review Board.

The Honors College partnered with the Institute for Political Affairs and Civic Engagement for a lecture to discuss, reflect, and engage with the topic of Charlottesville lead by then Honors College sophomore, Abiodun Adeoye.

128 Honors 111 students presented their Honors 111: Creative Thinking and Writing Research projects during the Annual Honors College Student Research Conference coordinated by Dr. Wood, Dr. Kock, and Professor Hill.

The Honors College brought author of several young adult novels, Malinda Lo, to campus to provide an overview of the history of LGBTQ representation in Young Adult Literature.

Honors College students enjoyed another successful annual Halloween Potluck hosted by the Honors Student Association. A costume contest, pumpkin painting, and a clever Honors House escape room drew students out in full force!

The Honors College Class of 2022 enjoyed their Honors Freshman Orientation which brought them to campus for an early move-in to the Manokin and Pocomoke Residence Halls, a family dinner, and class bonding at a local entertainment center with Honors College professors, their Resident Assistants, and upperclassmen Honors students.
