Bobbi Biron Theater Program
In 1999,
the Salisbury University Theatre Program was endowed with more
than $500,000 by Bobbi Biron, a longtime Salisbury resident
with a love for theatre. Biron stipulated
various uses for
the endowment, including
student
scholarships
and
guest artist programs.
With this gift,
SU became the first campus in the University
System of Maryland with an endowed theatre program or
department and, in gratitude to its benefactor, the
Theatre Program is named in her honor.
Theatre courses are offered in
traditional lecture and performance
lab settings through web-enhanced, hybrid, and online modalities.
Selected courses meet requirements in the general
education and creative arts programs. The
facilities include a 776-seat
proscenium theatre, a 150-seat black box theatre, a performance
lab/rehearsal room, and multiple production shops and labs.
Undergraduate Admission
Please refer to the University's

admission to the Theatre Program are not
required.
Theatre Major
Academic Checklist (pdf)
- Complete with grades of "C" or better
13 courses in theatre (5 must be at the 300/400 level): 8 core
and 5 track.
- Complete with grades of "C" or better
the requirements of a minor (suggested areas are Art,
Communication Arts, Creative Arts, Dance, Film or Music); a
minimum of 30 hours at the 300/400 level; and, electives as
needed to graduate with a minimum of 120 hours.
- Transfer students majoring in theatre
must complete a minimum of six theatre courses including THEA
199 and 499 at Salisbury University.
The mission of the
Bobbi Biron Theatre Program's 44-hour theatre major is to provide focused, pre-professional training within the
context of broad liberal arts study that leads to a
Bachelor of Arts in theatre. Through
applied studio courses, laboratory experiences and full
productions, students learn an immediately useful set of theatre
skills to prepare them for entry-level professional theatre
training programs or graduate school. Concurrent
study of textual analysis, literature, and history help them place the
theatre within its larger historical and cultural context and to think
critically, reason clearly, imagine creatively and communicate effectively
about theatre and the world of which it is a part.
A required track in either
Performance or Design & Production allows
for individual experimentation and growth.
