Sammy's Biography

Sammy the Sea Gull has really learned how to spread his wings in the past few years at Salisbury University, a powerhouse in NCAA Division III athletics. The Sea Gulls have won five of the past six men's lacrosse national championships and three field hockey titles in a row from 2003-05. Sammy wouldn't think of missing Homecoming, Fun Day or the Sea Gull Century (a 100-mile bike race hosted by Salisbury University).

While SU's community-oriented events are always great fun, Sammy stills has his heart in SU athletics. Whether it's football, field hockey or soccer in the fall or over in the Magg's Center for basketball and swimming in the winter to the lacrosse fields and baseball and softball diamonds in the spring, Sammy loves to root SU's fine men and women on to victory. At home football games Sammy can be found hanging out with the cheerleaders or roaming the stands for hugs, high-fives, defense chants or posing for pictures. Sammy shows great sportsmanship and loves to celebrate with the Sea Gull teams when they win a conference or national championship. Sammy also finds time to support the athletic teams when they host benefit games for cancer awareness or other special games or athletic milestones. You can find Sammy all over campus hanging out at the University Center or over in the bookstore checking out the freshest SU gear. Sammy loves playing X-Box with the students in the Fireside Lounge or chowing down on his favorite food ... french fries! But Sammy is health conscious, so he tries to eat as many fruits and vegetables as possible.

Sammy has been invited to many regional events such as UMES's Harry the Hawks first birthday party and Fruitland's Trick-or-Treat in the Street Night. Meeting Delmarva's fine residents brings joy to his little bird heart. He brings smiles to the faces of the Holly Center residents and celebrated at Shorebirds Stadium on their mascot Sherman's birthday alongside the Orioles Bird and many other furry friends! Sammy is all about children and he always has time to give out a high-five, autograph, a hug or stop for a picture with the Wee Gulls. Sammy is a huge part of the Salisbury University campus.
