Despite rainy weather, Salisbury University’s Homecoming 2013 was marked by fun-filled reunions and celebrations. Activities included the annual faculty emeriti and retired staff luncheon, a Varsity Club golf tournament, special themed dinners and SGA Spirit Week events.
On Saturday, October 12, fans gathered at Sea Gull Stadium to watch the football team claim its third straight win, defeating Buffalo State College, 34-6. Other teams also played at home during the weekend: Volleyball won against Juniata College in the Sea Gull Classic, while field hockey shut out Frostburg State University, 6-0, in its fourth Corners for Cancer game. Men’s and women’s soccer also won matches at Southern Virginia. On Friday, October 11, four alumni were inducted in to the Athletics Hall of Fame: Amy Campion Cohen (’03 women’s basketball and tennis), Lisa Gentilella (’03 softball), Katie Mullinix Johnson (’03 softball) and Brendan Roddy (’03 men’s swimming).
For the third year, a pre-football game alumni barbecue drew fans for music, children’s kite building, camaraderie ― and a dry tent! A special luncheon honored the Class of ’63’s 50th anniversary. Alumni of the WSSC/WSUR/WXSU student radio stations celebrated 40 years, while SU’s chapter of the Pi Gamma Mu international social sciences honor society gathered for its 30th anniversary. SU’s Lambda Society, Geography and Geosciences Department, and classes of 1973, 1988 and 1998 also reunited. Commemorating the 15th anniversary of Matthew Shepard’s murder, others attended the Theatre and Dance Department’s production of The Laramie Project.
