Information Session: Prince George's County Alternative Teacher Certification
Have you thought about being a teacher but did not major in Education? There is a way to still become a teacher and get paid while doing it--through the ALTERNATIVE CERTIFICATION for TEACHERS in Prince George's County Public Schools Resident Teacher Program in Upper Marlboro, MD. They focus on recruiting and training talented individuals who have not completed a teacher education program, but have a strong desire to work with youth. The program is a Maryland Approved Alternative Preparation Program that leads to State Certification.
Time: 2:30 PM -3:30 PM

More details:
1. Candidates participate in a one year training program provided by Prince Georges County Public Schools that leads to Maryland State Certification
2. An intensive Pre-employment Training occurs during the summer
3. The Internship experience ranges from four to eight weeks based on prior experiences
4. Training continues one evening per week throughout the school year
5. Participants receive ongoing mentoring for the year
6. As a Resident Teacher, you will be considered highly qualified and receive a regular teacher's salary plus benefits - Bachelors Degree - $45,695
Eligibility Requirements:
Must be committed to positively impacting our youth
Have earned a Bachelors Degree
Have a minimum GPA of 2.75
Have at least 30 semester hours of content in a specific subject area or 36 semester hours of math, science, social studies and English for the Elementary Program with a minimum of 6 hrs. each subject
Be a U.S. citizen, or a permanent resident with a valid Green Card
Speak fluent English
Passing score on Praxis I (In lieu of taking the Praxis I exam, candidates may submit documentation of composite scores on the SAT, ACT or GRE (see the website for details
