Social Work

Holloway Hall

Welcome to the Social Work Department of Salisbury University

Social work is a profession devoted to helping people function the best they can in their environment.  Social workers are people who care about people – who want to make a difference.  They do this by providing services to individuals, families and groups, and by working with communities as a whole.  Social workers are found in public agencies, private businesses, hospitals, clinics, schools, nursing homes, private practices, police departments, courts, and countless other workplaces.

The Social Work Department began in 1974 to serve the needs of Maryland and the neighboring states.  Since that time the program has grown to include the Dual Degree Program with the University of Maryland Eastern Shore in 1990, and a new Master of Social Work Program, which was launched the fall of 2001.  It offers students the opportunity to earn a MSW in a student-centered, teaching-focused atmosphere.

Most recently, the Social Work Department has partnered with Cecil Community College (CCC) and the Eastern Shore Higher Education Center at Chesapeake Community College (ESHEC) to provide students in the mid and upper Eastern Shore with the opportunity to earn a baccalaureate and/or master's degree in social work by providing access to students who would not otherwise have access to these programs.  Thus, the primary goal of these partnerships is to address the educational need of the citizens, businesses, and state agencies in the mid and upper Eastern Shore.
