WBOC: SU Announces Plans for Downtown Salisbury Performing Arts Center

"Hairspray" cast
A $100 million Salisbury University performing arts center may be on the horizon for downtown Salisbury, pending approval by the Wicomico County Council. Expected to open within four to five years, the new center would feature an auditorium with seating for up to 1,000. Other planned amenities include a music and theatre space with seating for up to 450, a convertible dance studio, scenic and costume design facilities, and dressing rooms, as well as classroom and rehearsal space. In the wake of Haiti's political turmoil, the already sizeable Haitian population in Salisbury is growing at a rapid rate. Dr. Eric Rittinger, chair of Salisbury University's Political Science Department, noted that "There's a real political vacuum. Logan Lankford is the first Salisbury University student to receive the Fulbright UK Summer Institute Award. The honor will allow her to spend three weeks this summer studying Scottish history at the University of St. Andrews in Scotland. 47 ABC recently spotlighted the sophormore health science major and her accomplishments as part of its "Emerging Leaders" series. WMDT: SU Expecting Increase in Fall Enrollment Despite National FAFSA Issues

A troubled FAFSA rollout has seen a decline of 30 percent in submissions across the Eastern Shore by seniors planning to start college in the fall. While FAFSA submissions are down 16% at Salisbury University, the institution is expecting an 8% increase in enrolled students compared to last fall. "We were excited to be the first in the University System of Maryland to start sending financial aid offers to our new students," said Allen Koehler, SU associate vice preisdent for enrollment management.
