"Auditions Set for The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas"
SALISBURY, MD----The Bobbi Biron Theatre Program at Salisbury State University announces auditions for a production of the fun-loving, foot-stomping musical The Best Little Whorehouse in Texas, based on the true story of the famous "Chicken Ranch" Bordello, on November 29 and 30 at 7 p.m. in SSU’s Fulton Hall Black Box Theatre.
Dr. Darrell Mullins, associate professor of communication arts and production director, describes the play as a "lively toe-tapping romp. While definitely for adults, the show is basically harmless; about the worse thing about it is its title," said Mullins. "The characters are fun and funny and even in a musical comedy setting, force us to think about ethics and morality, the lives of women, and how there just might be a speck of truth in everyone’s take on a particular situation."
Featured characters include the tender yet tough Madam of the House, Miss Mona; Melvin P. Thorpe, a publicity-seeking self-righteous consumer watchdog; the side-stepping Governor; Sheriff Ed Earl Dodd; Miss Mona’s lively maid Jewell; and Doatsey Mae, a waitress at the local diner. Other characters include: Miss Mona’s "working girls," victory celebrating football players, scandal loving reporters and townspeople.
Auditions for the production are open to students, faculty/staff and members of the community. Those wanting to audition should be prepared to sing a song of their choosing, dance and read from the script at the audition session. Those planning to audition should bring their own music, an accompanist will be provided.
Rehearsals for the production begin in late January. The production will be peformed in SSU’s Holloway Hall Auditorium on March 2-4 and 7-11.
For more information or if interested in auditioning and unable to attend the November 29 and 30 session contact Mullins at 410-543-6238.
