"SSU's Lambda Society Hosted Rainbow Reunion"
SALISBURY, MD---During Salisbury State University’s recent 75th Homecoming celebration, the University’s Lambda Society hosted the first "Rainbow Reunion" for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgendered (GLBT) members of the University community.
During the reception, attended by approximately 40 persons, Dr. Paul Grecay and Director of Alumni Relations Roy Perdue recognized Byron McCrae, ‘93, of Bronxville, NY, for his contributions and support of the event and for his "outstanding commitment to diversity and equality at the University."
McCrae, the assistant dean of students at Sarah Lawrence College (NY), thanked the Lambda Society for creating an inclusive and welcoming environment on campus.
SSU Provost Donald Cathcart thanked McCrae and the Lambda Society for their efforts to support diversity and reaffirmed the University’s commitment to ensuring equality on campus.
In 1997 the University System of Maryland Board of Regents approved a policy of non-discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation. In 1998 the SSU Lambda Society was formed by a group of faculty and staff members concerned with discrimination toward GLBT members of the University community.
