SU Hosts American Mathematics Competition for Delmarva Students
SALISBURY, MD---Some 200 Delmarva middle school students participated this week in the second annual American Mathematics Competition (AMC8) at Salisbury University.
The SU site for the Mathematical Association of America event is the second largest in the U.S., said Dr. Randall Cone, event organizer and faculty in SU’s Mathematics and Computer Science Department. The number of participants doubled from last year, he added, coming from across the Mid- and Lower Shore, and Sussex County, DE.
Each student took a 40-minute, 25-question, multiple-choice test. Their answers will be scored against others from across the nation.
The middle schoolers ate lunch in SU’s Commons and toured campus.
The AMC8 is the nation’s “oldest and most prestigious” middle school mathematics contest, Cone said.
