Hoopes-AmeriCorps Promise Fellow

SALISBURY, MD--Timothy C. Hoopes, a Salisbury State University graduate with a B.A. in communication arts, was recently hired to be the AmeriCorps Promise Fellow for Salisburyâs Promise. He is located in the ShoreCAN office on the SSU campus and can be reached at 410-546-6015.

The goal of Salisburyâs Promise, a local effort stemming from the Presidentâs Summit in 1997, is to give at least 1,000 underserved youth access to five resources by the year 2000.

Those resources are an ongoing relationship with a caring adult; safe places to learn and grow; a healthy start and a healthy future; a marketable skill through effective education; and an opportunity to give back through service.

The AmeriCorps Promise Fellow program is funded by the Governorâs Office on Service and Volunteerism from a grant received from the Corporation for National Service. Salisburyâs Promise received one of 17 positions awarded in Maryland. The Community Foundation of the Eastern Shore provided funding to Salisburyâs Promise for the AmeriCorps Fellow.
