Mentors and Tutors for At-Risk Youth Sought 

SALISBURY, MD--Salisbury University recently received $387,076 to continue the ShoreCorps/Partnership for Adolescents (PALS) program now in its seventh year.     

ShoreCorps/PALS mission is to serve at-risk youth in the classroom, after-school programs, in-school programs and public and private/non-profit agencies.  The AmeriCorps members who are recruited to serve in these sites provide mentoring and tutoring to the at-risk youth.  Also at-risk youth receive education in life skills, conflict resolution and education in drug, alcohol and tobacco prevention.

ShoreCorps/PALS serves six counties of the Eastern Shore:  Caroline, Dorchester, Somerset, Talbot, Wicomico and Worcester.  

Salisbury University is currently recruiting 42 members to serve in these counties.  SU seeks competent and energetic citizens at least 20 years of age for one year of service with PALS.  Commitment to children and commitment to a year of service is key to placement.  PALS is seeking individuals for full-time (1,700 hours) positions.  Positions provide a living allowance (9,300), post-education award of $4,725 to help pay school loans or future educational expenses and six credit hours of University course work. The part-time (900) positions available offer $4,650 living allowance, post-education award of $2,363 to pay school loans or future expenses and six credit hours of University course work.
