I am a junior Biology-Premed major, with minors in Chemistry and Philosophy, originally from Chestertown, MD. My honors involvement includes being the current co-editor of Honors newsletter, The Saunterer, through my position as a student worker for the Honors College. Additionally, I've been an active member of the Honors Student Association since my freshman year, and am the current secretary, and past 2016-2017 treasurer. HSA hosts exciting events that provide the chance to relax amid busy semesters, like trips to the local humane society, bonfires, potlucks, holiday events, trips to New York City and more. We also love to plan events that members decide they want to do, working with them to make their vision happen.
Outside of Honors, I am highly involved with the Department of Biological Sciences. As an active member of the American Society of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, I have volunteered with multiple STEM outreach events we have organized for middle school students, both on and off campus, and now the current 2017-2018 Outreach Coordinator. Additionally, I work as a lab assistant for the BIOL 210 Concept and Method Lab classes, preparing the materials and solutions for lab activities each week. Last but certainly not least, I conduct research with Dr. Jennifer Nyland, growing and maintaining immune cell cultures, and exposing them to low doses of toxicants to explore the effects on their growth. I've also gained other valuable skills by exploring the different research labs as well for the past two and a half years.
Beside my current involvement in Honors and in my major's department, I have also recently become a founding member of Delta Alpha Pi International Honor Society, where we are working to create a mentorship program for students with disabilities. Last year, I also worked as a Supplemental Instructor for a Philosophy course for a semester.
