Analysis of the secondary school program in social studies; emphasis on methods of teaching history, geography and citizenship. Current curriculum trends considered. In-depth study of literacy needs of diverse student populations including instructional and assessment strategies in reading and writing. Prerequisites: Admission to Master of Arts in Teaching Program and successful completion of EMAT 530. Three hours per week.

Continuing analysis of middle and high school programs in social studies. Emphasis on methods of teaching history, geography, economics and citizenship. Current curriculum trends are considered. In-depth study of literacy needs of diverse student populations including instructional and assessment strategies in reading and writing. Continuation of SCED 372. Required classroom visitations and field experiences as necessary to complete assignments. Prerequisites: Admission to Professional Teacher Education Program and SCED 372. Three hours lecture and six hours internship per week. (fall semester only)
