Reporting Flow Chart

If you presently witness the abuse or neglect of a child...

  • Call 911; and
  • Follow the child abuse and neglect reporting protocol (see Reporting Checklist below)

If you become aware of child abuse or neglect that has occurred on campus...

  • Call the University Police at 410 543-6222; and
  • Follow the child abuse and neglect reporting protocol (see Reporting Checklist below)

If you become aware of child abuse or neglect that has occurred off campus...

  • Follow the child abuse and neglect reporting protocol (see Reporting Checklist below)

If you become aware of past child abuse or neglect of an adult...

  • Follow the child abuse and neglect reporting protocol (see Reporting Checklist below)

Reporting Checklist

Make an oral report immediately as is practical, within 48 hours to the Local Department of Social Services and/or to the local police department.

Provide a written report to the Local Department of Social Services.

Provide a copy of the written report to the Director.

Provide a copy of the written report to the University Chief of Police if it

  1. Took place in University facilities or on University property,
  2. Was committed by a current or former employee or volunteer of the University,
  3. Occurred in connection with a University sponsored, recognized or approved program, visit, activity or campus, regardless of location, or
  4. Took place while the victim was a registered student at the University.

Consult with the Director, as needed, for assistance reporting child abuse and neglect and in working with victims.
