The development of the plan is in progress and will capture themes to develop a strategic approach related to advancing diversity, equity and inclusion at Salisbury University. The plan is being developed to accomplish integration of inclusive excellence into all aspects of university operations, foster a sense of shared responsibility and better monitor progress to goals.
The workgroup is developed to understand and implement equity principles related to higher education. The initial focus will prioritize identifying barriers for access and success for students of color. The focus of the workgroup will evolve to include other areas.
Designed to include students, faculty, staff, alumni and community stakeholders who represent various identities and backgrounds to inform polices, practices, structures and to expand opportunities for collaboration and community engagement.
Designed to provide a pathway for diverse alumni to connect with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion in leveraging their experiences to develop opportunities to engage with the campus community, especially students, and to inform the current student experience.
The purpose of the Diversity Council is to bring the current chairs of unit diversity committees and unit representatives together with the Chief Diversity Officer to act as liaisons to their respective areas.
The council is designed to create opportunities to bring units actively working to weave diversity, equity and inclusion into their areas together to increase synergy of campus diversity efforts, align unit efforts with institutional goals, leverage resources between units, increase collaboration and increase communication between units and the CDO. Membership on the Diversity Council is an opportunity to review and advocate for critical diversity issues, to coordinate diversity programs and initiatives across the University, to advise on and manage diversity planning, and to identify and disseminate best practices.
Additionally, members are responsible for reporting back to their deans and colleagues, and to ensure that the current work of the Diversity Council is circulated widely within their units.
