Web Browsers

Although Netscape and Internet Explorer are the Superpowers of the browser game, there really are many, many others.  If you like to buck the norm, you can try any of these.  Of course, when you use one of these maverick browsers, you are pretty much on your own for support.  The comments are supplied by the Web Developer and are only meant to be helpful--not accepted as fact.  Note: Not all of these browsers are for Win95. 

• Netscape Navigator.  Historically, the Internet standard.  Communicated comes with Navigator (the web browser), Messenger (for pop email), Composer (an HTML editor), an other useful (and not so useful) plug-ins such as: RealPlayer G2, Winamp (Windows only), plus multimedia plug-ins.
• Netscape Stand alone browser (4.08)  On the same download page as Communicator is the Stand alone version.  If you don't want the whole package that Netscape offers with Communicator, you can just get the traditional Web browser.
• Microsoft Internet Explorer.  Internet Explorer is a fine Web browser, but it is huge!  I have never been able to download is successfully over the Internet.  If possible, I would recommend installing it via CD (if you are at SU, contact IT).  Even more so than Netscape Communicator, Internet Explorer comes with useful (and not so useful) additional tools, applications, and plug-ins.
• Neoplanet.  Requires you to have IE4 or greater.  Neoplanet has some navigational features and design customization features that make it unique.  If you are tired of the same old browser experience, Neoplanet is a nice change.  
• PolyWeb.   Also requires you to have IE4 or greater.  A nice alternative to Netscape or Internet Explorer.
• Opera Software.  The Web browser for professionals.  This browser is a high-powered application that was intended for heavy use.  Has features for opening up multiple windows without becoming a drag on your memory, practical navigational tools, and a nifty, easily accessible zoom feature.
• Lynx. The browser the way CERN intended!  No design, no images, no plug-ins.  Just HTML content.  Very compact application. Note:  This is not a version-4 browser!
