Get Involved, the world is run by those who show up!

Join the Student Alumni Council (SAC). SAC is a group
that helps connects the student body with alumni. Events
and activities range from planning Homecoming
activities, attending alumni dinners and functions,
planning senior events, serving on advisory boards and
other external councils - basically you are the crème de
la crème of SU students to our alumni. It's a great way
for you to make contacts and networking opportunities,
while at the same time having fun and helping the
advancement office.
In addition, this will also serve as the
Senior Class Gift
Committee. Almost every college has a Class Gift
Campaign or at least a Senior Class Gift. It is designed
to educate students on the importance of giving back to
their alma mater after graduation. It is not only a fund
raising opportunity, it is a brainstorming committee to
determine how best to involve current students as well
as stay in touch with grads.
FIRST MEETING FOR
FALL SEMESTER WILL BE
SEPTEMBER 9, 2008 AT 3:30 PM AT
THE ALUMNI HOUSE. PLEASE JOIN US!
President Amy
Gilbert and co-advisor, Kerrie Bunting, attended the
ASAP Student Leadership conference this past summer in
Salt Lake City. WOW! Did we learn a lot.
We have great new ideas and a new found sense of
enthusiasm, so join in on that and come learn how your
student life COULD be if you explored your leadership
aspirations.

May 6, 2008
3:30 Alumni House
Present: Amy Gilbert, Kristi
Staley, Kelly Cooper, Bonnie Ripple, Rachel Grau, Ashley Hill,
Brigid McGovern, Jessie Hanson, Trisha Kruger, Cory Gould,
Julius Jones, Kerrie Bunting, Jason Curtin
Old Business: The decision was
made to keep meeting on Tuesdays at 3:30 for fall semester.
Rachel has gone over SAC’s accounts with Melinda Khazeh. All
Relay for Life money was submitted from selling cupcakes during
the event and from the Earth Day Festival. Thanks to all of our
volunteers! We have been offering engravable bricks for the
Alumni Garden at a reduced rate of $50 to all graduating
seniors. None have sold yet but many were interested. $25
would be to pay for the brick and the remaining $25 would go
toward the Class of 2008 senior class gift. Amy will attend the
Alumni Bd of Directors meeting on May 7. SAC has been nominated
for a student organization award and the ceremony will be May 7
at 7 in the Wicomico Room. All are urged to attend. May 8 is
the annual Senior ConGRADulations party in the Alumni Garden and
we need a few volunteers. We will also offer the bricks for
sale at that time.
New Business: Be prepared in fall
for many events. Fun Day is Sept 20, Sea Gull Century is
October 4, Homecoming is October 17-19, and Family and Parent
Weekend is October 31- Nov 1. We will need many hands on deck
for these campus wide events! Amy and Kerrie will attend a
leadership conference this summer in Salt Lake City. In
September we will hold elections for the executive officers. If
anyone is interested in a position, please let Amy or Kerrie
know. Kelly has had to leave school early due to illness so
Rachel volunteered to prepare our bulletin board for summer and
post that our first meeting in fall will be September 9, 2008.
Beginning in fall all members of SAC will be required to
volunteer for at least three events per semester and be on at
least one committee.
Open Discussion: Jason asked if
anyone had any comments, suggestions, regarding how SAC is
living up to their expectations. Many agreed we need to have
more social (non-working) events just for the group, we should
bring a friend to meetings to increase awareness and interest,
and there should be more interaction with alums.
Meeting adjourned at 4:05.
