How were the Funding Peers developed?

The Competitor States Funding model is intended to compare funding for each public four-year institution in Maryland to that of similar public institutions within the ten states that Maryland competes against most heavily in the national economy: California, Massachusetts, Washington, North Carolina, New York, New Jersey, Pennsylvania, Ohio, Virginia, and Minnesota. Under the new model, most USM institutions have approximately 60-70 funding peers. However, because there is typically a considerable amount of institutional overlap across variations, 68 funding peers were generated for SU after the 2015 recalculation. From those "68 funding peers" Salisbury University was required to select 10 performance peers. These performance peers are used for state-level comparisons.
