Mary V. Norton

Mary Norton (1994) is Dance Artist-in-Residence and Artistic Director of the SU Dance Company in the Department of Theatre and Dance at Salisbury University. She teaches courses in ballet and musical theatre dance and served as ballet instructor in the Maryland Summer Center for the Arts.

Norton's early training at the Ballet Theater of the Eastern Shore under the tutelage of Madame LaNada Strom led to professional study with such renowned ballet masters as Tatiana Akinfieva-Smith, Teresa Emmons, David Howard, William Christopher and Finis Jhung. Her studies at the University of Delaware focused on theatre and an apprenticeship with the Marion Tracy Dance Studios of Delaware began her teaching career.

Ms. Norton has performed as a soloist with the Delaware Regional Ballet Company and the Eastern Shore Ballet Theatre (of which she was a founding member of the Board of Directors). Her choreography credits for dance and musical theatre include 11 original ballets for the SU Dance Company, Godspell, and West Side Story. To expand the horizons for dance in the community, she founded Dancenter Salisbury in 1997 to provide quality dance instruction in a nurturing, non-competitive atmosphere.
