Welcome to Dance!
Thank you for your interest in the Dance Program! Housed in the Department of
Theatre and Dance, the program celebrates an alliance with music, theatre, and the visual arts in the Fulton School Liberal Arts and contributes to a vision for the performing arts at Salisbury University. The mission of the Dance Program reflects the university's core values of excellence, student-centeredness, learning, community and civic engagement, and diversity.
By offering training, support, performance and production opportunities, the 21-hour Dance Minor gives students the chance to study dance while pursuing a major field of study. Auditions are not required to declare the minor. Financial assistance may be available through Financial Aid.
The SU Dance Company, beginning in 1960 as the Modern Dance Club, focuses on dance as a fine art. Through ensemble study, students rehearse and perform ballet, ethnic, jazz, modern, and musical theatre dance works choreographed by resident faculty, nationally-renowned guest artists, and selected students. Three main stage productions are presented each year. Entrance auditions are required for new and returning members on the first Monday of fall and spring semesters.
The 2,200 square foot dance studio features a sprung-wood floor, natural lighting, and floor-to-ceiling mirrors. Dance classes are offered in studio, lecture, interdisciplinary, hybrid, and online modalities and may be used to fulfill requirements in general education and several major and minor programs.
