Frequently Asked Questions for Students
What is the phone number to my room?
The telephone number associated with your room assignment will
be given to you on move-in day. The Telecommunications Office has created
a packet that each student will receive, which provides all the information you
will need to know about telephone, computer and cable television (including your
telephone number).
How do I add money to my account?
To apply money to your account visit the Cashier's Office in
Holloway Hall, Room 219. A minimum payment of $25 is required, in the form
of cash, check or money order (made payable to Salisbury University). The
check/money order should include the word
TELEPHONE and the student's ID number and can also be mailed to the
Cashier's Office (Salisbury University, PO Box 2195, Salisbury, MD 21802).
What is an AUTH CODE and how do I get one?
An AUTH CODE (authorization code) is a 6-digit number that
each student living on-campus is assigned. This AUTH CODE is what is used
to place off-campus calls and have those calls billed to the student's account.
The AUTH CODE is distributed in the Telecommunications move-in packet or by
stopping by the Telecommunications Office, located in the University Police
Building, Room 104.
Do I have to sign a contract if I bring my cell phone?
Every student living on-campus is required to sign a RESTEL
Service Agreement (contract). By signing the contract, the student agrees
to adhere to all the policies set forth by the Telecommunications Office as
related to proper telephone use. If you have not already done so,
contracts can be signed during move-in day, online or by visiting the
Telecommunications Office.
How much does a local call cost me?
Local calls are 3 cents per minute. Long distance calls
placed between the hours of 8 a.m. and 5 p.m. are 11 cents per minute and after
5 p.m. and weekends, that rate is reduced to 9 cents per minute. There is
no cost to place on-campus calls (room to room) or receive incoming calls.
Nor is there a charge to place emergency 911 calls.
Who do I call to report a problem with my telephone, computer or cable?
To report a problem with your telephone or cable television,
call x36000. To report a problem with your network connection in your
room, call x75454.
Can I use a pre-paid calling card from my room phone?
Pre-paid calling cards can be used on this campus, but it
requires the use of an active AUTH CODE. An active AUTH CODE must have
money on the account before a call can be placed. Assuming money is
available, you can place a pre-paid calling card call and once the call is
complete, no charges will be deducted from your account balance, as there is no
cost to dial a toll-free number.
Is there a phone provided in each residence hall room?
The Telecommunications Office provides dial-tone to each room
on-campus but we do not provide the telephone instrument for each room.
Every student living on-campus is strongly advised to bring a telephone to
campus and plug it into our campus telephone system. By doing this, you
allow the campus staff to contact you and callers from off-campus can reach you
as well.
