Application for Department of Teacher Education Scholarships & Awards
Application Deadline: February 15, 2008

The Department of Teacher Education at Salisbury University invites all early childhood and elementary education majors to apply for any and all of the following scholarships if they meet eligibility criteria.  On-line applications may be printed and submitted to the Department of Teacher Education Office, Caruthers Hall 148.

Delta Kappa Gamma Beta Chapter Award $100.00

Awarded to a senior woman majoring in education who is currently student teaching or who has completed student teaching.  Must have graduated from a Worcester, Wicomico, Dorchester, or Somerset County high school and show promise of becoming a successful teacher. 
Awarded in May 2008.

Anne H. Matthews Award $150.00

Awarded to a junior education major who shows promise of becoming a successful teacher.  Must evidence good relationships with fellow students, have desire for knowledge and professional growth, and show involvement in campus and/or community activities.
Awarded in May 2008.

Caruthers Memorial Award $125.00

Awarded to a junior or senior education major who evidences academic scholarship, leadership skills, involvement in campus and/or community activities and who shows promise in becoming a successful teacher.
Awarded in May 2008.

Penelope Jarman Memorial Scholarship $1000.00

Awarded to a junior early childhood education major who has a 2.75 or better cumulative GPA,  SAT score of 1250 or better, and who demonstrates financial need.  Students must also evidence leadership and scholarship.  Students may receive this scholarship for two years, but they must reapply for the second year.
Awarded in May for use in following academic year.

Institute for Retired Persons (IRP)  Education Scholarships $1000.00

The Institute for Retired Persons provides a scholarship for Early Childhood and/or Elementary Education majors.  Recipient must be a full-time junior with a cumulative grade point average of 2.85 or greater for the previous three semesters.  Recipients are selected by the Scholarships/Awards Committee in the Seidel  School of Education and Professional Studies.  The number of scholarships given annually may vary. 
Awarded in May for use in the following academic year.  Recipients attend an IRP celebration meeting in the fall.

  Worcester County Teachers' Association Scholarship $1000.00

Awarded to a junior education major who is a graduate of Worcester County public school system.  Must have a 2.75 cumulative GPA or better at Salisbury University.
Awarded in May for use in following academic year.

Carey Simons Scholarship $1000.00

This scholarship is awarded to a student pursuing a career in public school education in Maryland. Applicants must have been residents of the Pittsville, Willards, Powellville or Gumboro election district of Wicomico County, MD for at least five years and must have completed two years of successful undergraduate study. Applicants are judged on merit, achievement and potential. Recipients are selected in March by the Scholarships/Awards Committee in the Seidel  School of Education and Professional Studies.  The number of scholarships given annually may vary. Awarded in May for use in the following academic year.

    Clinton Bradway, Jr. Scholarship $1000.00

This scholarship is awarded to a junior or senior education major. Recipients of this renewable scholarship must meet the following criteria: be a resident of Dorchester County, agree to teach in Dorchester County upon graduation--one year for each year of funding*, and be admitted into the professional teacher education program at Salisbury University. Verification of financial need must also be submitted (FAFSA).

*Note: Failure to fulfill the county teaching obligation will resultin recipient's obligation to return the scholarship funding plus10% APR Interest within 5 years.
