| Dr. John Wolinski is currently a Professor of
Education at Salisbury University in Salisbury,
Maryland, where he joined the faculty in 1976. From
1987 to 1990, he served as Assistant Dean in the School
of Education and Professional Studies. Dr. Wolinski was
a former classroom teacher in New Jersey and a
Specialist in Reading with the Florida Department of
Education. Dr. Wolinski has a B.A. in English and
History Education from Glassboro State College (now
Rowan University) in New Jersey, and an M.A. in Reading
Education from the same institution. He earned a Ph.D.
in Reading and related Language Arts from Florida State
University.
Dr. Wolinski teaches graduate and undergraduate
courses in elementary school reading methods, integrated
language arts, and classroom assessment and intervention
in reading; he also supervises student teaching
interns. He regularly presents at local, state,
regional, and national conferences, and conducts
workshops for local school systems. Dr. Wolinski's
presentations are characterized by practical
applications of research and observation. He is the
co-author of the 1990 McGraw-Hill Spelling series
for grades 1-8. His three most recently published
articles (all co-authored with Dr. Amy Meekins) are:
“Basalizing Children’s Literature: Waiting for Anne
Frank to Die,” ”In Defense of Formula Fiction,” and
“Using Book Characters Who ‘Write’ to Model and
Encourage Students’ Writing: An Annotated Bibliography.
Dr. Wolinski has completed a thorough meta-analysis of
the National Reading Panel Report and is
currently reviewing the research that supports and
informs appropriately “balanced” classroom literacy
practices.
Dr. Wolinski was honored with the 2003 Salisbury
University Alumni Association’s Faculty Appreciation
Award for the Seidel School, presented at the fall 2003
Convocation Ceremony.
