Dr. Teena Gorrow
Dr. Teena Ruark Gorrow is an Associate Professor of
Education in the Department of Teacher Education at
Salisbury University in Maryland. Since joining the
Salisbury Faculty in 2000, Dr. Gorrow has instructed
undergraduate and graduate courses in classroom
management, education foundations, cooperative learning,
and classroom assessment. She has also coordinated the
Regional Professional Development Schools Program,
supervised field-based teacher interns, and directed the
Elementary Education Program. Her experiences as a
public school educator prior to joining SU include 17
years of service as a classroom teacher, assistant
principal, principal, central office supervisor of
instruction, and district coordinator of special
programs.
Her scholarly pursuits are characterized by a blend
of research, observation, personal experience, and
application. Her most recent book publications include
The ABC’s of Wellness for Teachers, a book
co-authored with Dr. Susan Muller, and Using
Literature Circles to Research Instructional Strategies,
a book chapter co-authored with Dr. John Bing. Her most
recent published articles include Four Keys to
Keeping New Teachers, Rearrange Your Attitude,
Help Your Sub be a Star (co-authored with Dr.
Susan Muller and Mrs. Karen Parsons), Polishing the
Apple: Six Steps to a Shining Job Fair Performance
(co-authored with Dr. Rebecca Emery) 180 Days and
Counting (co-authored with Dr. Susan Muller and Dr.
Paula Gibb), The Relationship Between Perceived Body
Size and Confidence in Ability to Teach Among
Pre-service Teachers (co-authored with Dr. Susan
Muller and Dr. Sid Schneider), and Emotional
Well-Being of College Students in Health Courses With
and Without an Exercise Component (co-authored with
Dr. Susan Muller and Dr. Dixie Dennis). Dr. Gorrow also
regularly presents at state, regional, and national
conferences.
Dr. Gorrow was recognized as the 2002-2003
Outstanding Faculty Member of the Year by the
Salisbury University Student Government Association (SGA),
and was honored with a 2007 SGA Faculty Appreciation
Award. She serves as the Academic Coordinator for the SU
Education Living Learning Community and is a former Head
Counselor for SU’s Rho Eta Chapter of Kappa Delta Pi
International Honor Society in Education. Named the 1989
Talbot County Teacher of the Year, Gorrow was
honored as a finalist for the 1989 Maryland State
Teacher of the Year Award and is the recipient of
two Governor Citation Awards.
Gorrow’s degrees include earning a doctorate in
Education Policy, Planning, and Administration from the
University of Maryland College Park; an M.A. in
Counseling and Personnel Services from the same
institution; and a B.A. in Psychology and
Elementary/Middle Education from the University of
Maryland Baltimore County. She also holds an Advanced
Professional Certificate with the State of Maryland in
the areas of administration, teaching, and school
counseling.
A native of Maryland’s Eastern Shore, Dr. Gorrow enjoys
playing the piano, landscape photography, and
songwriting. She is married to Wayne Gorrow, Assistant
Director of Campus Recreation at Salisbury University.
