Elementary Education Program at Eastern Shore Higher
Education Center (ESHEC)
Salisbury University's
Elementary Teacher Preparation Program is now being
offered at the Eastern Shore Higher Education Center at
Chesapeake College, (ESHEC). The Bachelor of Science
degree in Elementary Education is offered in a cohort
model. The last two years of the Elementary Teacher
Preparation Program have been offered at the ESHEC since
Spring 2007. This enables those in the midshore area to
complete most of their courses in their home area. In
addition, advising sessions and registration assistance
is offered at the ESHEC site. It is recommended that
students have earned their Associate of Arts in Teaching
(AAT) and have passed the Praxis I test. Students who
have the AAT degree will be admitted to the Elementary
Teacher Preparation Program.
Students who have not completed the AAT must meet
entrance requirements to be admitted to the program.
These include: 1) Completion of a minimum of 56 credits
including the required prerequisite courses with a grade
of "C" or better, (see the PTEP application), 2)
Successful completion of the Praxis I exams, 3) a grade
point average of 2.75 or above, 4) and a declared minor
course of study in a content area that is taught at the
elementary or middle school level. Interested
candidates should apply to Salisbury University's
Admissions Office and complete the Professional Teacher
Education Preparation Application (link to PTEP).
Upon being admitted to the program, candidates will
receive a Gullnet and GroupWise password, which will
enable them to register for courses.
