Born and raised in Austin, Texas, Alexander “Sandy” Pope IV is a lecturer in the Department of Teacher Education at Salisbury University, where he teaches courses in undergraduate social studies and graduate research methods. His research investigates, among other things, the way civic engagement experiences impact student and teacher attitudes towards their communities.

He is nearly done with the Ph.D. in social studies education at Teachers College, Columbia University, and fully expects that by the summer you will have to call him Dr. His dissertation investigated student and teacher experiences during a semester program designed to promote civic engagement.

When not working on civics, Sandy spends time walking and talking with his wonderful wife Kat, inspiring daughter Dora-Due, and a brand new son Alexander Pope V.
