Transportation
Faculty, staff, and student commuting accounts for about 25 percent of the
University's total greenhouse gas emissions. As the University works to achieve
carbon neutrality, providing commuters with convenient options to reduce vehicle
emissions is increasingly important. Presently, SU offers a free shuttle service
with stops around the campus and nearby housing. For information regarding the

Electric Vehicles
The campus is working to increase access for electric vehicle owners. In August
of 2011 the campus installed four vehicle charging stations near Perdue Hall
with infrastructure for up to 12 more installations in the Wayne Street Parking
Garage. To learn more about the charging stations and sign up for a SemaConnect

Shuttle
SU's Shuttle Bus operation connects with nearby student housing and parking
lots and is free to SU students, faculty and staff.
During Fall and Spring semesters the shuttle operates
on a 15 minute pick-up/drop-off schedule. Shuttle transportation has increased
as much as 15% during the Fall semester and as much as 24% during the Spring
semester, over a four year period. On average, 5200 passengers ride the SU
shuttle buses every week!

Hybrid Fleet Vehicles
 SU has nine hybrid cars in the fleet, two of which are University Police cars.
All nine of the hybrid vehicles are Nissan Altimas. University Police reported
that switching from a standard vehicle to a hybrid has increased their mileage
from an average of 10 mpg to 20 mpg.
Bicycling
Many faculty, staff, and students commute to campus by bicycle. For those that
do, bike racks conveniently located near all buildings and there are
changing/shower facilities at Maggs Gym and University Fitness Center. Covered
bicycle storage may be found near Blackwell Library and Nanticoke Hall.
Gull Ride
An online ride sharing program, http://www.GullRide.com, is now available for students, faculty and staff to find matches for daily carpooling to campus, trips out of town, or travel to events. The program requires the user to set up a profile which lists your preferences and looks for matches based on location and profile. Once a match is found, you are emailed and allowed an opportunity to view their profile. If the match is acceptable, you may contact that person by email. The program cannot be accessed by users outside of the university and includes a FAQ section with guidance on how to establish a carpool group. Gull Ride includes a feature to match cyclists for trail or circuit rides and for walking also. The program includes a calculator to estimate savings by carpooling and carbon emissions avoided.
