New Student Orientation Schedule of Activities
Winter 2008 Preview
Friday--January 25th, 2008
8:00am--1:00pm: MOVE IN
Students who are new to Salisbury University and moving into
an on campus residence hall can move into their spring assignment between the
hours of 8am and 1pm. Students should report directly to their residence hall
for check in.
1:00pm - 1:45pm: OFF-CAMPUS & COMMUTER STUDENT GATHERING -
Wicomico Room, GC
Off-campus and commuting students gather and receive
information and instruction about Friday and Saturday's activities; which are
part of your new student orientation seminar. Students with a meal plan:
Please bring your Gull Card to use dinner on Friday; as well as all Saturday
meals. These meals have been paid for and added to your card. If you do not have
a meal plan, please enjoy the meals by signing in at the cashier's station in
the Commons at those times.
2:00pm--2:30 pm: WELCOME CEREMONY - Holloway Hall Auditorium
Students and family members will be officially welcomed to
the Salisbury University community by the Provost, Vice President of Student
Affairs and the Student Government Association President .
2:30pm--3:00pm: CLASS OF 2011 REGISTRY SIGNING - The Social
Room, Holloway Hall
Join the rest of the class of 2011 and sign your name to the
Salisbury University Class of 2011 Register.
Family Members: You are welcome to
join your son/daughter as they officially sign the Salisbury University Class of
2011 Register signifying their first official act as a Salisbury University
student.
3:00pm--4:00pm: FAMILY FAREWELL RECEPTION - The Great Hall,
Holloway Hall
Now that you are getting settled in, it is time to wish your
family and friends farewell as you prepare to launch into your first semester at
Salisbury University.
5:00pm--6:30pm: DINNER IN THE COMMONS - The Bistro
Don't forget your Gull-card! Dinner seating this evening is
in the Bistro Room.
7:00pm--8:00pm: RESIDENT MEETINGS
Meet your RA and building director as they conduct a
mandatory meeting for all the new students of your residential building. This is
a great time to meet all the other new students who will be living in your hall
as well as learn about important procedures and policies. Attendance is
mandatory. Locations vary by building.
9:00pm--11:00pm: RHA "TWISTED SEAGULL" COMPETITION & OPEN GYM
NIGHT - Maggs Gym
Bring some comfy clothes and all your new friends! The
Residence Hall Association will be hosting an enormous game of "Twister". Other
open gym games and events will also be available to students. Refreshments will
be provided.
11:00pm--1:00am MOVIE - Wicomico Room, GC
End your first night as a Salisbury University student
watching "Across the Universe", starring Evan Rachel Wood and Jim
Sturgess. Popcorn and sodas will be served.
Saturday--January 26th, 2008
**Today you will need to wear sneakers and clothing
appropriate for physical activity** No sandals, flip flops or open toed shoes**
7:30am--9:00am: BREAKFAST - The Commons
Come to the Commons for breakfast! Bring your Gull-card!
Morning & Afternoon Sessions:
Group 1: All residence hall students EXCEPT those living in
St. Martin's.
9:00 - 11:00 am: Beyond the Limits
- Meet in front lobby of Maggs Gym - don't be late!
Get ready for a workout and a test to your agility
and teamwork! This one is just pure fun!
11:00 - 1:00 pm: LUNCH - The Commons - Bring your Gull Card!
1:00 - 2:00 pm: Shared Paths: Wicomico Room, Guerrieri Center
Too often discussions centered around diversity
are limited to issues of race, gender and/or sexual orientation.
This session features an exploration of similarities we share as
well as those experiences that make us uniquely different.
2:00 - 3:00 pm: True Life 101: Salisbury U Edition - Wicomico
Room, Guerrieri Center
Join your 2011 classmates in an interactive
experience that focuses on common, first year student transition
issues. Discuss everything from over-involved parents, to roommate
communication, to alcohol and/or drug use and everything in between.
Guaranteed to arm you with knowledge, make you laugh and give you
something to think about as you settle into life at SU.
Group 2: All off-campus and commuting students AND
residence hall students in St. Martin's.
9:00 - 10:00 am: True Life 101: Salisbury U Edition -
Wicomico Room, Guerrieri Center
Join your 2011 classmates in an interactive

together with your classmates for a quick break. Grab a drink and a
snack outside the Fireside Lounge before your next session.
3:30pm--4:30pm: ALCOHOL, CITIZENSHIP & CONDUCT - Wicomico
Room, Guerrieri Center
Ed Cowell, Dean of Students, Jennifer Berkman,
Director, Student Health Services, Byron Hughes, Assistant Director,
Housing and Residence Life, and Lt. Paul Simon, Salisbury City
Police, hold a frank discussion about your new responsibilities as a
citizen of Salisbury University and the Salisbury, Maryland
community, SU's Code of Conduct, and alcohol use, responsibility and
actions taken in the event of misuse.
5:00 pm--7:00pm: DINNER - The Commons - Bring your Gull Card.
6:00pm--8:00pm: WAL-MART SHUTTLE - Leaves every 20 minutes
from outside of Choptank Hall (Devilbiss Parking Lot)
Did you forget something already? Vans will be
driving back and forth between the campus and Fruitland Walmart so
you can stock up. The last shuttle will return to campus at 8:00 pm.
8:00pm--9:30pm: Michael C. Anthony, Hypnotist - Wicomico
Room, Guerrieri Center

10:00pm--Midnight: MOVIE - "Across the Universe" - Wicomico
