FRESHMAN STUDENT ADVISING & COURSE REGISTRATION

Students receive orientation folders and have identification photos taken.

Faculty Comments (Students Only)

Representatives of the SU faculty, Dr. Darrell Mullins, Communication Arts, and Dr. Arlene White, Modern Languages will talk about academics at SU;  providing students an opportunity to discuss concerns and expectations and to ask questions relating to University academic life.

Housing & Residence Life (On-Campus Living) (Students Only)

Guerrieri Center – Nanticoke Room 236

Housing & Residence Life staff will provide information on goals, policies and regulations, roommate issues, and programs offered to the resident student population.

***Students who will be living on-campus are required to attend this session***

Commuting Students & Off-Campus Housing (Students Only)

Guerrieri Center – Choptank Room 219

Representatives from the campus will provide information about access to services, dining services, health services and parking services for commuting students; as well as search tools offered at the Guerrieri Information Desk for students looking for off-campus housing.

See separate schedules for Parent and Student Concurrent Sessions at back of program.  To maximize information acquisition students and parents should attend different sessions. Select one each time. You will not be able to visit all of the sessions. Faculty and staff will be available during the lunch hour in the Dorchester Room of the Commons to address personal concerns or requests.

Students and their families will meet for lunch in the Dorchester Room.  Students will be assigned to an advising group before they leave the dining hall.  Students MUST be in the Dorchester Room at 1:00 p.m. to meet their academic advising group.

 

Faculty and staff will be on hand to provide resource information during lunch.  If you were not able to attend one of the concurrent sessions earlier or you had other questions that may not have addressed your concerns…this is the time to get the information you need.  Lunch time table participants are:

Advising and Course Registration

An exercise in independent decision making.  Students work with a faculty advisor to select their classes for the fall semester.

 

1:15 – 2:05 p.m. (Parents Only)

Parents in Transition

Guerrieri Center – Nanticoke Room 236

Participants will explore ways in which the transition to college impacts parents and students.  They will also examine strategies parents and students can utilize to enhance this developmental transition so that the college experience becomes academically rewarding and emotionally strengthening.  Topics include separation anxiety, emotional adjustment, campus resources and academic strategies.

A session for parents of students participating in an outdoor program.  General information and question-answer.

Campus Tours (Optional)

Tours Leave Every 15 Minutes

Guerrieri Center, Fireside Lounge

Students who have finished scheduling and parents will be given the opportunity to tour a residence hall and some academic facilities. If you are interested in having a complete campus tour, please visit the Admission House, located at 1200 Camden Avenue to schedule a tour.  (Weather Permitting)

 

2:15-3:30 p.m.

Anticipated completion times of individually paced student course registration.  Students will meet their parents in the Fireside Lounge of the Guerrieri Center after they have completed registration.

The State Employees Credit Union is the banking institution who supplies the ATM on campus.  Stop by and talk to their representative to get information on student checking accounts, savings accounts and debit cards.
