Come to the peer leader recruitment fair to learn
about the many peer leader opportunities!

What is a Peer Leader?
Have you ever wanted to participate in a
hiking trip? Maybe biking is your
passion? Do you love the big city...why not
apply to be a peer leader for the New York seminar?
Do you see yourself as a mentor? Do you have the
character to be a leader? Want to share your
experience at SU with incoming students?
Here's your opportunity!
The fair will give you the opportunity to explore
all of the adventure options you may have been
looking for. Course directors, facilitators and
previous peer leaders will be on hand to talk about
their experiences helping to orient SU's new
students to the University, college life and
community. (Some positions are PAID positions.)
Openings
To date, we are looking for peer leaders for the
following:
PREVIEW (SUMMER ADVISING & COURSE
REGISTRATION):
The last two weeks of June and July 11th. Host
new students and their families when they
come to campus to gather information, meet the staff
and faculty and register for their Fall semester
classes.
NSE OPENING EVENTS TEAM:
A core group of students who work with the Office
of New Student Experience to coordinate various
events for new students prior to the start of
classes in the Fall.

| Acadia Adventure |
Cycle, cliff climbing, sea kayaking,
camping and whale watching are just a few of
the exciting activities that you will
experience on this trip. Acadia National
Park, Maine. |

| The Alaskan Experience |
Learn the history and traditions of
Alaskan Native Americans as you explore
Anchorage, Seward, Homer and smaller
villages in the region. Kenai Peninsula and
Denali National Park. |

| Algonquin Canoe |
Hiking, canoeing, camping in Algonquin
Provincial Park in Ontario, Canada....a true
wilderness experience. |

| Beyond the Books |
Intensive, four-day experience. Beyond
the Limits rope course located just outside
of Salisbury. A challenging process of
experiential discovery that significantly
increases self-reliance, leadership skills
and a heightened awareness of others. |

| Aventura Ecuador |
Experience Ecuador! Camp and hike in the
Andes and interact with the local
population. Experience Ecuadorian cuisine,
visit the Center for Inter-American Studies.
Complete an outdoor service project. |

| Masters of Disaster |
Seminar designed to train participants
to assist campus personnel and the American
Red Cross in emergency response to local
disasters. Be part of the American Red Cross
Incident Rehabilitation Unit that helps with
incidents in he event of disasters caused
by, hurricanes, fires, chemical spills, etc. |

| New York |
A four-day program that connects
experiences in fine and performing arts with
issues students face in transitioning to
college. Travel to New York for on a
cultural and academic journey. |

| Nantahala |
Travel to the Great Smoky Mountains of
North Carolina to the "Land of the Noon Day
Sun" and learn how to tap into your creative
student leadership skills while completing a
low-ropes/high-ropes challenge course and
whitewater rafting on the Nantahala River. |

Travel to Wild and wonderful West
Virginia, home of two of America's finest
whitewater rafting runs. Participate in rock
climbing and repelling....explore a few coal
mines while you are there. |

setting providing new students with
information and resources at SU that will
foster the retention and success of those
students |

| CHAMPS Life Skills |
Facilitators and peer
leaders work together in a classroom setting
with student-athletes or possible
student-athletes helping them address issues
that are unique to student-athletes. |

| Freshman Commuters / History
101 |
Facilitator and peer leader
work with commuting or perimeter students
helping them address issues that are unique
to the commuting student. The other part of
this seminar provides commuting students
with their History 101 course requirement.
By placing commuters in both an orientation
section and an academic course, student
share a commonality with other commuting
students. |

| Habitat for Humanity |
Just what it says!
Facilitator and peer leaders work with
students who have an interest in making a
difference in their community by
participating in build projects throughout
the city on two Saturdays during the Fall
semester. |

| MOSAIC |
Help students gain a better
understanding and develop an appreciation
for those who differ culturally, ethnically
and racially. Presentations, small group
discussions, cultural events, and field
trips. |
