Students have the right to request that a Hearing Advisor be present with them during any Student Conduct meeting. The Advisor can be anyone who wasn’t directly involved in the incident. The role of the Advisor is to provide the student with assistance in understanding how the hearing will proceed. The role of the Advisor is to assist with understanding the University resolution process.
The Advisor may provide emotional support before, during and after a hearing. At no time will the advisor be permitted to address the board, or other parties in the hearing, directly. If an Advisor behaves in a manner that is determined to be disruptive by the Hearing Officer/Hearing Board Chair in consultation with the Committee Advisor, the Hearing Officer/Hearing Board Chair will issue the Advisor a verbal warning. If the Advisor continues to be disruptive, the Advisor will be issued another verbal warning. If the Advisor continues to cause disruption, he/she will be removed from the hearing by the Hearing Officer/Hearing Board Chair/Committee Advisor. If an Advisor refuses to leave when asked, the hearing will be stopped, and the Salisbury University Police Department will be called to escort the Advisor off campus. Once the Advisor is removed, the hearing will continue.
